Ten tips for single guys

I know too many quality women looking for but not finding a good man. This is frustrating. Therefore, in an effort to help guide single men I would like to share ten tips.

  1. Workout

Two years ago I was watching a comedian joke about how he could always tell the straight men from the gay men in the audience, because all of the straight men looked like slechps and the gay men all looked great. It inspired me to start P90X. I didn't finish it but made some progress and now this year I'm training to run a marathon. I'm no macho man but it's important to work towards some type of physical fitness. No woman wants to date a guy that's out of shape. So here you go.. lace up those shoes, get on a bike, stop drinking soda like water and set some type of fitness goal.

  2. Wash your dishes and clean your car... regularly

You'll have clean dishes when you want to eat something and when your friends come over they won't be grossed out by the mold growing in your cup of coffee. Trust me it doesn't take long. Furthermore, you'll avoid that embarassing moment of moving all the junk out of the way when you have to drive them around.

  3. Decorate your apartment

For the longest time I was holding out on this stuff thinking, 'why would I do that when someday I'll get married and my wife will want to do it all differently anyway.' Yeah.... get over that type of thinking and just do it.

  1. Take the fashion advice your girlfriends offer

A couple years ago I was in NYC with two girlfriends and I had forgotten to pack a pair of shorts. We went to some store and they suggested a pair that differed significantly from my normal type of purchase. I would never have picked the shorts out myself and felt a little awkward buying them in the store, but I reminded myself of this; 'they know more than I do in this area.' Get over yourself and take their advice. You'll be surprised by the number of compliments you receive.

  2. Train yourself to be a gentleman

Girls like guys who are gentlemen. Open the door for them, use words like please and thank you. Many girls don't even realize they like this until someone actually does it consistently in their life.

  3. Figure out how to have fun outside of a bar

This may require some research, but you'll be surprised to find how many other things there are to do outside of a bar. Now, when you go to put together your online dating profile you may actually have some proof that you like the outdoors.

  4. Get your finances in order

Who wants to date or marry a guy loaded in debt with no financial plan? If you're confused I'll answer for you... NO ONE!! Get out of debt, start saving and investing. Have a plan that you're actually following. Get a second and third job. Trust me it's more appealing than having conquered Call of Duty in record time.

  5. Love God passionately

Women are looking for men who will live for a cause beyond themselves. You'll never regret living your life passionately for God.

  6. Read books

    It's attractive.

  7. Check your spelling

Nothing says stupid like a misspelled word. Take the extra time when texting, use a spell check program before you post to facebook, write an e-mail to your highschool english teacher and apologize for not paying more attention. Remember, everything you do communicates something. As my football coach would always say, “we're watching everything you do.”

Disclaimer: I've been single for 30 years of my life.

  2. will second the advice on keeping your car clean and reading (books/newspaper/etc). This also will give you more to talk about once you have covered the weather and how work was this week.

flowers, most women like them and they arent fattening. doesnt have to be a dozen red roses... sunflowers, alstromeria, iris all good options that will last a week+ and can be found at many supermarkets. can be used to decorate apartment too.

is your church nursery looking for some extra help? sign up once a month. fun time, pick up some skills working with kids, and the married women will talk you up to the single women

disclaimer: single longer than Woodly =P

  3. Woodly, that's great advice. Seriously boys, put some effort into not being a shmuck; it will pay off. I have one important thought to add:

Man up and be willing to take risks. If you're waiting for a girl to find you and initiate a relationship, you might as well grab yourself a snickers bar and hunker down for a long wait. Being the pursuer is hugely important in so many ways. I don't feel like explaining it, but just believe me.

And don't be afraid of failure. Theodore Roosevelt once said:

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in that gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."

    Man up!!

Disclaimer: I have not been single for 30 years. I'm getting married to a great girl that made me work for her... it was worth it!!
