The Daily Office - Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Series

Redeeming Love Fellowship has entered into an eight week journey titled "Emotionally Healthy Spirituality" from a series developed by Peter Scazzero (www.emotionallyhealthy.org)  The series combines our Sunday sermons with the book, small group discussions and a devotional called "The Daily Office."

The Daily Office is a companion resource that serves as a tool to remind us of the presence of the Lord throughout our day.  The format asks participants to set aside two times during each weekday to meet with God. Each “office” session begins and ends with two minutes of silence and stillness. They also include a scripture and devotional thought with a question and prayer. The daily office encourages a contemplative growth in our relationship with the Lord.
As I was having one of my “office” sessions last week I set my timer on my phone to make sure that I took two minutes of silence and stillness (note: it can be longer than two minutes). It seemed a little silly that I needed to set a timer and the thought rose up in my mind 'you're just being legalistic?' Then the Lord reminded me of the training process that often takes place in life. I have often followed workout programs to help develop my physical fitness. As I football player I choose to strengthen myself through that process. Shelly and I went through an intentional program of counseling to help build a solid relational foundation for our marriage.  It wasn't the majority of our time in dating but there was a component of focused development.
Proverbs 19:20 says, “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.” Sometimes we need to accept the process of establishing discipline in our lives. We all recognize how this helps in other areas of our life however, sometimes we can reject a truth we know in one area by failing to embrace the process in another. Sometimes we must go through a period of developing intentional discipline to fully delight in the benefits. I am praying that you will find The Daily Office a delight as I have.
